Rev Gordon Best

Minister

Gordon is married to Pamela, and is Dad to Stuart and Katie. He has been the minister in Newmills since the start of his ministry journey - back in 1996.

Gordon’s ministry is centred around ‘making and shaping’ a church family of disciples, who are united together in Christ, strengthened by God’s Word, excited by mission and faithful in prayer.

When he’s not writing sermons and in ‘minister mode’,  Gordon enjoys good food and strong coffee, countryside walks, fair-weather cycling, dabbling in genealogy and overseas travelling (although Northern Ireland’s north coast is still hard to beat!).

Mark Hawthorne

Assistant Minister

Mark joined us as a Student Assistant in September 2021 and began his two years of full-time assistantship in the summer of 2022. Originally from Londonderry, Mark has lived with his wife Laura in Waringstown since they got married in 2010. They have three children: Josiah, Zac, and Rebekah, and a dog called Alfie.

Mark previously worked for SUNI, and was an Elder in Waringstown PC. Mark loves to open God’s Word with people of all ages and is excited about becoming a part of the church community in Newmills. When he’s not visiting or preparing a sermon, you might find him with a camera in hand, or fretting about his fantasy league team!
